Drag legend Sherry Vine is bringing her antics, pushing-the-envelope comedy, and a bag full of guest stars for season 3 of her hit show, The Sherry Vine Variety Show. Paying homage to the variety shows of the 70s, this season has 6 full episodes with sketches like Touched By An Asshole, a 60 Minutes parody titled Sissy Minutes, commercial parodies, a drag take on The Exorcist, and the always funny Lady Cops. This season also features 5 new songs in the signature Sherry Vine style. Guest stars include Alaska Thunderfuck, Latrice Royale, Bianca Del Rio, Jackie Beat, Peppermint, Monet X Change, Laganja Estranja, Nina West, Salina Estitties, Ben DeLa Creme and more! We caught up with Sherry for this Andrew Christian exclusive as we chatted about her show, sex, and more!

Congrats on Season 3! What do you think fans love most about your show?

Thank you! I think they love that I’m not singing live. lol. I think, I hope, that people appreciate the silliness. With everything going on in the world we need to be silly and stupid for 20 minutes.

What is your creative process in writing the scripts for the skits?

I tend to work better under a little time pressure. I gather ideas constantly, like every day, and keep notes. So when it comes time to write sketches and parodies I have a wealth of material. Last year I sequestered myself in a room in Puerto Vallarta and wrote 6 episodes.

You have a lot of big personalities guest starring on the show. Spill the tea, who is the biggest diva on set?

LOL! I’m not even bullshitting or hiding the truth but there are no divas really. I only work with people I love and who are fun. All we do is laugh! And I think the fact that people like Jackie, Varla, Bianca, Alaska and Monet come back every season is because it’s fun.

What has been a crazy/funny story about one of your filming days for the show?

I think one of the funniest days filming was for season 2 we did a Ride Share sketch with 6 different queens. Bianca driving around the city alone reading people on the street was soooo funny. We let her go for like 30 minutes lol.

Another time, we were filming a music video on a set we rented that had a bedroom and I thought it would be funny to keep putting things in my mouth. Well, it turns out they were things that had been there from who knows when and where and NOT from our set designer. “Where has this cork been”??

How come we still haven’t seen you guest judge on Drag Race?

Let me call Ru on speed dial… oh right, I don’t have her number. Lol. I don’t know but I’m ready to go!

You were part of the early nightlife and drag culture in the 90s in NYC. What is an outstanding memory from that time?

Honey, if you can remember the 90’s in NYC you weren’t really living it! There are just too many. It was a great time for drag in NYC. We were doing 2-3 shows A NIGHT! There was always something going on and I was out every single night. When someone asks me if I watched such and such TV show from the 90’s I’m like, “No, honey, I was out every single night”.

You have seen the evolution of drag in the mainstream, how has drag changed the most from your point of view?

On the positive side, drag has become a legitimate art form and it’s been monetized which is great for all of us. On the other side, you don’t have to be a performer to be a famous drag queen now. Which is fine!! But it has changed what people expect or don’t expect at shows.

Ok, time to spill the tea more…what do love, sex, and dating look like for Sherry Vine? Is she getting a lot of action?

Less action than in the 90s, lol, but she’s still going. I love sex and I don’t see that changing. As I get older I keep thinking it’s going to slow down and it hasn’t. I don’t work as hard to get it as I used to but I still love sucking D! lol I don’t date and I really don’t see that happening. I’m a whore. When I think of going on a first date, I would rather be alone.

You continue to tour and sell out shows all over the nation, what do you love most about performing live for your fans?

There is nothing like performing live and it literally gives me joy and energy. Nothing makes me happier- nothing. Opening around the world for Bianca was the best because I had none of the stress (ticket sales, etc) and all of the joy.

Your partner in crime is Jackie Beat. What do you love most about working with her, and how has your friendship lasted the dawn of time?

Jackie is a c*nt! LOL. Our friendship has survived for over 30 years because we know each other so well. I know exactly when her mood is about to swing and she knows me. And onstage, there’s no one I connect with better. I know where she’s going and vice versa. We have the same sense of humor and the same taste in men!

Looking forward, what do you want to accomplish next?

I’d love to tackle a feature film. I have ideas and actually a script ready to go. And I’d love to make a documentary. I also have that ready to go! And of course, I hope to keep performing live for another 30 years!

What is your message to your fans?

Please buy a ticket to a show! LOL. And watch season 3 of The Sherry Vine Variety Show on OUT TV.
